AB32 - California's effort to reduce climate change - what can you do?

California's major initiative for reducing climate change or greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is outlined in Assembly Bill 32 (signed into law 2006). The California Air Resources Board (CARB) released its AB 32 Scoping Plan June 25th. View it here. The public has three opportunities to comment preparatory to the Board’s formal vote on adoption in November. Transportation, the single largest contributor, in California accounts for 38% of emissions. Greening your transportation can make a difference.

There are many things you can do. Even though the scoping plan will not have mandated actions until 2012, voluntary early actions, count. Be a leader start improving now and get credit for it. Greenslip can help you designing, implementing and documenting early actions. Individuals in California can calculate their carbon footprint here or for more national and international guidelines go here. Climate Change or Global Warming?

In English precision in language matters. Why do we have three words ships, trucks and planes to describe the same thing? Aren’t they all just large modes of transportation. Why do we feel the need to distinguish between a mode of transportation on water, land or air? Language is a tool that is used to communicate. English is one of the languages with the most words which allows it a level of precision not available in all other languages.

So in the current environmental discussions should we b… Continue

Broadening wind energy ownership by changing federal incentives

A policy brief by the name of "Broadening Wind Energy Ownership by Changing Federal Incentives" by John Farrel of the New Rules project clearly explains current issues with the Production Tax Credit (PTC) as well as the onerous SEC filing requirements. These two rules alone mean that only large corporations and organizations can easily take advantage of the benefits of small wind energy farms. A shame to say the least.

Solar power, biomass, geothermal energy and wind could be the leading energies by 2090

The world could eliminate fossil fuel use by 2090 by spending trillions of dollars on a renewable energy revolution, the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) and environmental group Greenpeace said on Monday.

The 210-page study is one of few reports -- even by lobby groups -- to look in detail at how energy use would have to be overhauled to meet the toughest scenarios for curbing greenhouse gases outlined by the U.N. Climate Panel.

"Renewable energy could provide all global energy needs b… Continue
